Box Score A fourth-inning grand slam, which broke a 1-1 tie, lifted Hampton-Sydney to an 8-3 non-conference baseball victory over visiting Mary Baldwin Wednesday.
The host Tigers took an early lead, but MBU evened the score when
Jacob Barber raced home on an infield ground out by
Kelly Hackley Jr. in the fourth inning. The Tigers then broke the game open with the grand slam in the bottom of the fourth and added insurance runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Â
Tyler Smith accounted for MBU's other runs with a two-run blast in the seventh, his second homer of the season and sixth of his career. It was one of MBU's four hits in the game.
Mary Baldwin (5-24, 3-9 USA South) returns to action this weekend with a three-game conference series this weekend at Pfeiffer University. Because of the weather forecast, the schedule in Meisenheimer, N.C. has been switched to a single game Saturday (4 p.m.) and a doubleheader Sunday (noon).
