Caleb Smith set a school record and
Anna Bruce,
Ashley Bennett and
Lapatrick Bridges all set personal bests in their events to lead the Mary Baldwin men's and women's track & field teams in the Randolph College Wildcat Invitational Saturday.
Smith finished 21st overall in the men's 1,500-meter run, crossing the finish line 21st overall out of 51 competitors in an MBU record time of 4:25.95. Also in the distance races,
Nicole Black covered the distance in the women's 1,500 (5:11.07) to finish 14th out of nearly 40 runners.
In the sprints, Bruce finished ninth in the 400-meter run (1:11.99), Bennett was 19th in the 800 (2:44.06) and Bridges was 12th in the 100 (11.73), all with personal best times. Bridges was also 12th in the 200 (23.23) while classmate
Averi Harrod was 13th in the 200 (23.32) and 14th in the 100 (12.03).
The Fighting Squirrels will challenge the rest of the USA South teams in the conference championship meet this weekend at Jay M. Robinson High School in Concord, N.C. Competition will start with field events Friday (4/25) at 1:30 p.m. and running events later that day, and continue Saturday (4/26) with the first event at 9 a.m.
