Mary Baldwin's track and field team traveled to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for the USA South Indoor Championships.
Sophomore
Rowan Downer competed in the women's 800 meters, finishing in 2:57.48 seconds.
Downer later joined sophomore
Nicky Black in the mile. Black placed in the top 10 with a time of 5:38.97. Downer finished 12th in 6:30.20. Black closed out her day in the women's 3,000m, finishing in 11:32.84.
On the men's side, junior
Tucker Shifflett recorded a personal-best time of 51.19 seconds in the 400 meters, placing sixth and scoring a team point for the Fighting Squirrels. Shifflett later posted another personal best in the 200 meters, finishing in 23.00 seconds and just outside the top 10.
JuniorÂ
Caleb Smith lowered his school record in the mile with a time of 4:45.12, placing seventh. Smith also competed in the 3,000 meters, earning his second top-10 finish of the meet in 9:29.28.
Mary Baldwin now turns its focus to the outdoor season, looking to build on its indoor performance.
