Women's Track and Field
Mary Baldwin track and field traveled to North Carolina to compete in the USA South Track and Field Championships this weekend.
For the women, sophomore
Nicky Black started strong, placing third in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Black's time of 12:59.02 secured six points for Mary Baldwin, and her third-place finish earned all-conference honors in the event.
Black continued her day in the 10000 meters, finishing sixth in 44:24.25 to add three more points.
On Saturday, sophomore
Rowan Downer led Mary Baldwin in the 1,500 meters, finishing just outside the top 10 with a time of 5:55.04.
Downer also competed in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:48.38.
The Fighting Squirrels finished seventh out of eight teams with nine points.
Men's Track and Field
For the men, senior
David Shultz opened competition Friday with a personal- and season-best javelin throw of 42.94 meters. Shultz placed eighth, scoring a point for MBU.
On Saturday, senior
Omarion Lacroix competed in the shot put, throwing 11.85 meters to secure eighth place and one point. Lacroix set a new personal best and surpassed his 2025 championship mark by 0.41 meters. Senior
Brandon Jones also competed in the shot put, finishing 11th with a throw of 10.68 meters.
In the men's 400 meters, sophomore
Lapatrick Bridges placed fifth with a time of 50.28, setting a new personal best and scoring four points.
Freshman
Tajee Groomes scored in the 400-meter hurdles, running a personal-best time of 1:04.73.
In the high jump, sophomore
Kadin Pittman cleared 1.70 meters to secure a point for Mary Baldwin.
Jones and Lacroix also competed in the discus. Jones finished 12th (31.60 meters), while Lacroix placed 15th (24.26 meters).
The Fighting Squirrels scored three points in the 4x100-meter relay, with senior
Tristen Bannasch, Jones, Shultz and Groomes competing.
Junior
Caleb Smith placed eighth in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:50.49.
Mary Baldwin closed the meet with the men's 4x400-meter relay, adding one point.
 The men finished sixth overall with 17 points.

The Fighting Squirrels conclude their season and will look to improve next season.
