The Mary Baldwin track and field team competed Friday at the Bridgewater Rockingham Classic.
On the women's side, Rowan Downer ran in the mile finals, finishing in 6:36.22Â to place 28th. Sophomore Jasmine Louis was the Fighting Squirrels' lone 200-meter runner, crossing the finish line in 33.91 seconds.
On the men's side, freshman Tajee Groomes finished in the top 15 of the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries with a time of 10.87 seconds.
In the men's mile, junior Caleb Smith placed in the top 15 with a time of 4:47.07 a new program record for the event, while senior David Schultz finished in 5:51.76.
Smith and Groomes also competed in the 800 meters. Smith placed 20th in 2:17.68, and Groomes followed in 22nd with a time of 2:19.52.
In the men's 200 meters, junior Tucker Shifflet finished eighth in 23.24 seconds. Senior Tristen Bannasch also competed, posting a time of 27.42 seconds a new personal record.
In the field events, senior Brandon Jones opened up his season placing 14th in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 2¾ inches.
