Mary Baldwin delivered a balanced performance at the Washington and Lee Carnival this weekend, highlighted by several top-10 finishes.
On the women's side, sophomore
Nicky Black ran a personal-best 2:35.68 in the 800 meters, shaving three seconds off her previous mark. Fellow sophomore
Rowan Downer also recorded an outdoor personal best in the event.
For the men, senior
Raymond Benton had a strong outdoor debut. He placed in the top 10 in the long jump with a mark of 6.56 meters, moving onto Mary Baldwin's all-time list. Benton also ran 54.45 in the 400 and contributed to the 4x400 relay.
The relay team of junior
Tucker Shifflett, Benton, freshman
Josh Hill and sophomore
Lapatrick Bridges posted a time of 3:33.8, ranking third in program history.
Sophomore
Kadin Pittman competed in three events. He cleared 1.74 meters in the high jump, just outside the top 10, recorded a personal-best 5.52 meters in the long jump and placed in the top 10 in the triple jump (12.07 meters).
JuniorÂ
Caleb Smith led the team on the track with a ninth-place finish in the 5,000 meters (16:39.31). Bridges also competed in the 200 (23.63), while additional distance efforts came from Hill (200), Benton (400), freshman
Tajee Groomes (800) and junior
Daniel Diaczyszyn (1,500).
In the javelin, senior
David Shultz placed in the top 20 with a throw of 39.96 meters, ranking among the top three in program history. Senior
Brandon Jones also finished in the top 20 with a mark of 34.42 meters. Seniors
Tristen Bannasch (32.53 meters) and
Omarion Lacroix (30.90 meters) placed 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
The Fighting Squirrels will be back in action March 27-28 as the compete in the Doc Jopsen Invite hosted by Bridgewater College.
