Box Score 2 STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College softball team improved their record to 10-20 with two wins over Maine-Presque Isle this afternoon. The Fighting Squirrels won the first game 2-0 and the second 9-3.
In the first game, Mary Baldwin jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Montana Welcher doubled up the middle driving home Sarah Seekins. The Fighting Squirrels added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th inning when Kayla Wheeler scored off of an error by the Owls.
Olivia Compton held the mound for Mary Baldwin and tallied 7 stike outs while giving up just 2 hits.
In the second game, Mary Baldwin jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Kayla Wheeler homered to left field and drove Sarah Seekins home.
The visitors answered in the top of the 2nd inning scoring 3 runs to take the lead.
Mary Baldwin tied the game in the 3rd inning then went ahead in the 4th inning when Pattie Pleasants drove home Janie Brothers. Chrissy Cromer then doubled to left field driving Alli Bascunan across home plate.
The Fighting Squirrels added 3 runs in the 5th inning and a final run in the 6th to earn a 9-3 win.
Kayla Wheeler and Montana Welcher finished the game going 2 for 3 and driving home 2 RBI's each.
Janie Brothers impoved her pitching record to 5-9 finishing the game with 6 stikeouts and 5 hits.
Mary Baldwin College (10-20) celebrates Senior Day on Saturday when they host Meredith College.
