For the third-straight year, the Mary Baldwin softball team qualified for the USA South Athletic Conference playoffs. And for the second-straight year, MBU will start the post season Thursday at top-seeded Pfeiffer University. This year's first-round opponent for the fifth-seeded Fighting Squirrels will be fourth-seeded Meredith College (game tentatively scheduled to start at approximately 1:30 p.m.).
The past two years, MBU won its opening round matchup, but was eliminated from the playoffs with second and third round losses.
The Fighting Squirrels enter this year's playoffs with a 22-16 overall record, 8-10 in the USA South. MBU has already tied the team record for most wins in a season and will look to break that record vs. Meredith (18-20, 10-8 USA South). Following Thursday's game, depending on the outcome against the Avenging Angels, MBU will play a second-round game Friday against either top-seeded and 21st-ranked Pfeiffer (30-7, 18-0 USA South) or eighth-seeded William Peace (19-19, 6-12 USA South).
During the 2025 regular-season, MBU won both games against Meredith (3-0, 9-6) and William Peace (15-6, 6-5) but lost both games to Pfeiffer (12-3, 3-0).
