Box Score Meredith College pounded out 11 hits, which led to eight runs in a five-inning shutout victory over Mary Baldwin in the opening round of the 2025 USA South Softball playoffs at Pfeiffer University Thursday.  

Friday, the fifth-seeded Fighting Squirrels (22-17) will face eighth-seeded William Peace in the double-elimination tournament's consolation bracket at noon.  If MBU wins, the team will play in a 4 p.m. elimination game against the loser of the fifth-seeded Meredith vs. top-seeded Pfeiffer.

The Avenging Angels scored two runs in the second inning, two more in the third off a homer inside the right field foul pole by Tess Spangenburg, and then the final four runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Trinity Thomas had one of Mary Baldwin's three hits and also drew one of the Fighting Squirrels' two walks.  Leanna Rankin and Allison Crum also had a hit for MBU.
