Pfeiffer University used a dominant third quarter to pull away from Mary Baldwin's Woman's basketball and secure a 67–57 victory Saturday afternoon.
After leading 32–19 at the half, the Falcons broke the game open with a 24-point third quarter, pushing their lead to 22 points.
Freshman
Lanie Bethel led the Squirrels with 20 points, one point shy of her career high, connecting on five three-pointers, while junior
Malia Bullock added 14 points and seven rebounds. Freshman
Shyla Williams chipped in eight points and six rebounds.
Pfeiffer placed four players in double figures, led by Ge'Kayla Goins with 11 points off the bench.
Pfeiffer capitalized on transition opportunities, scoring 21 fast-break points and forcing 22 Mary Baldwin turnovers. The Falcons also held a 45–40 rebounding edge and controlled the paint with 26 points inside.
Mary Baldwin returns to action at home Wednesday, January 14 to take on Southern Virginia University. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
