Mary’s career at Mary Baldwin included personal and team accolades.  Mary played her tennis under Lois Blackburn, who had a fabulous tennis coaching career at Mary Baldwin.  Mary won the singles title at the Virginia Collegiate Tournmant in 1971 and was also the runner up in the Eastern Collegiate Tennis Tournament in 1971.  This same year, the team won the Virginia Collegiate Tournament and was the runner-up in the Eastern College Tennis Tournament.  Mary was a finalist in the Division I Virginia Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament in 1972.  She won the Blazer Award in 1972 as the Outstanding Sportswoman.  In 1973, Mary won the Southern Collegiate Tennis Championship Sportsmanship Award. 

Mary continued with tennis after her graduation.  She was a USTPA teaching professional for more than twenty years.  She held tennis titles in Georgia as the Hard Court Champion and in Virginia as the 45 and over champion.  Mary and her husband Byrd run a farm in Charlottesville.  They have 3 grown children and 1 grandchild.  Mary still plays tennis and has taken up Ballroom Dancing.  She sells real estate and has been a top agent for the last two years.
