MBC Softball Start the Season 2-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RALEIGH, NC - The Mary Baldwin College softball team started the season 2-0 today at the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, NC.

The Fighting Squirrels couldn't have started better scoring 18 runs in the first inning against St. Elizabeth.  Freshmen LaToya Diggs and Jonquil Brown, both of Waynesboro, each had 4 runs in the first game while fellow classmate Virginia Griffin added 3 runs.  A host of other players added two runs each for Mary Baldwin 1-0, (0-0 USAS.)  Jessica Hogle remained on the mound throughout the game and gets her first win of the season as MBC dominated the game winning in 5 innings 24-0.

The second win of the morning against Salem proved to be much more of a battle for Mary Baldwin.   With the score 0-0 after the first inning, five different players crossed home plate to give MBC a 5-0 lead in the second inning.  The Fighting Squirrels added one more run in the 3rd to take a 6-0 advantage.  Salem came back to score 2 runs in the 4th and one more in the 7th but it wasn't enough and Mary Baldwin College took their second win of the day.  Jessica Hogle remained on the mound giving up 8 hits, 3 runs and 2 walks in the game.

The Fighting Squirrels will be back in action Saturday morning for the second day of the two day tournament.  They will play St. Augustine at 9:00am and finish against Wilson at 11:00am.
