Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, NC - Mary Baldwin College softball dropped their
record to 3-5 after losing both games this afternoon to Guilford
College.
Junior Jessica Hogle, who took the mound for the Fighting
Squirrels in the first game, struggled against Guilford giving up
13 hits and 10 runs in the opening game. All nine batters
scored for Guilford in the 10-2 victory.
Mary Baldwin got on the board in the top of the 4th when Sabrina
Desper hit a double that brought Jonquil Brown home and brought the
Fighting Squirrels to within five. But, MBC could only manage
one other run which came in the top of the 5th when Courtney Clausi
singled to center field which gave Kelsey Still the opportunity she
needed to score.
In the second game, Guilford again took a decisive lead going up
7-1 in the bottom of the 4th inning. In the 5th, both teams were
held scoreless. Mary Baldwin's bats came alive in the 6th
inning when Senior Sabrina Desper tripled down the right field line
again bringing Jonquil Brown home. Amanda Miller then bunted
to 2nd base giving Desper the opportunity to score. After Kelsey
Still lined out to left field, Sophomore Tiffany Flesher then
doubled to right center field. She picked up an RBI when
Amanda Miller crossed home plate for MBC's final run of the day as
Mary Baldwin fell to Guilford 4-7.
Mary Baldwin will be back in action at home on Tuesday when they
host Eastern Mennonite at 3:00PM.
