Box Score 2 Staunton, VA - The Mary Baldwin College softball team hosted
Eastern Mennonite University this afternoon in a non-conference
doubleheader. The Royals were picked 2nd in the ODAC
preseason poll and started the afternoon with a 9-1 record.
Eastern Mennonite was held scoreless in the first two innings
while Mary Baldwin Junior Jessica Hogle and Freshman Lindsey
Shifflet gave the Fighting Squirrels a 2-0 lead in the bottom of
the second.
In the third inning, Lisa Lee scored after getting on base with
a single to put EMU on the scoreboard. Mary Baldwin answered
the Royals with three more runs when Sophomore Rebecca Parramore
drove in Freshman LaToya Diggs. Pitcher Jessica Hogle then
stepped up and added two RBI's bringing home Senior Courtney Clausi
and Freshman Jonquil Brown.
EMU added one more run in the fourth inning to trail Mary
Baldwin 2-5 going into the sixth inning.
Lisa Lee then drove a double into the outfield and Molly Smith
added a home run in the top of the sixth inning to give EMU the
spark they needed. The Royals added five more runs to take
the lead 9-5 and eventually the win 10-5 in 7 innings in game
one.
In game 2, Eastern Mennonite scored 7 runs in the second inning
a rolled to a 13-0 victory.
Mary Baldwin College (3-7, 0-0 USAS) host No. 25 Shenandoah
University Wednesday afternoon at home at 3:00PM. The Hornets
were picked #3 in the USA South preseason poll and bring a 9-3
record with them after defeating Stevenson this afternoon. It
will be MBC's first USA South doubleheader of the year.
