Box Score 2 STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College softball team honored
its four senior players Saturday afternoon before taking on
Meredith College in a USA South Conference matchup.
After graduation, Seniors Courtney Clausi and Sabrina
Desper will commission as 2nd Lietenants in the United States
Army. Clausi, an aviation officer, will be stationed at Fort
Rucker, AL while Desper will be a transportation officer stationed
at Fort Sill, OK. Rebecca Mayberry has also enlisted in the
US Army and will be stationed at Fort Lee as an EOD
specialist. Amanda Miller, an art major, plans to work in the
missionary field and hopes to one day own her own art studio.
In Game 1, lead-off batter LaToya Diggs got on base with a bunt
then was driven home by fellow Freshman classmate Jonquil Brown
giving Mary Baldwin an early 1-0 lead.
In the top of the 2nd inning, Alex Warren hit a homerun driving
in two runs to help Meredith take the lead 4-1 in the second
inning.
Both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the game
giving Meredith the 4-1 win.
Meredith struck first in game 2 scoring 2 runs in the second
when Emily Cook hit a homerun which drove in Ashley Green.
The Avenging Angels added one run in each the 3rd and 4th innings
to build their lead.
Freshman Virginia Griffin put Mary Baldwin on the board
when Jonquil Brown drove her home in the bottom of the 3rd
inning.
LaToya Diggs added one more when she crossed the
plate after a sacrific fly by Rebecca Parramore.
But, the Fighting Squirrels left the winning run on base as they
fell 2-4 in the final game of the afternoon.
Mary Baldwin travels Sunday to Stevenson to play a
non-conference double header.
