Box Score 2 Buena Vista, VA - After losing the first game 1-7, the Mary
Baldwin College Fighting Squirrels came roaring back in the second
game of the double header to win 9-1 in just five innings.
Mary Baldwin jumped out to an early lead scoring two runs in the
first inning with two outs. Olivia Compton started the
Fighting Squirrels off with a single to left center field.
Janie Brothers followed with a double to left center advancing
Compton to third. Rebecca Parramore then brought both runners
home with a single to center field. Nicole Wenthe ended the
run when she grounded out to the shortstop.
Mary Baldwin added three more runs in the second inning.
This time, it was Jessica Hogle who singled to center field then
stole second and third base. Tassany Forero then stepped up
and hit a single to right field bringing Hogle across the
plate.
After Virginia Griffin walked, Sara Seekins got to first on a
Fielder's Choice when the defense threw out lead runner
Forero. Compton then singled advancing Seekins and bringing
Griffin home. In the last score of the inning, Brothers
singled through the left side bringing Seekins home.
Southern Virginia got their only run of the game at the bottom
of the second inning. Both teams were then held scoreless
through the 3rd and 4th innings.
The fifth inning proved to be all MBC as the Fighting Squirrels
added four additional runs to their score giving MBC their second
win of the season.
Mary Baldwin College will have little time to rest, as they host
NC Wesleyan on Friday and Christopher Newport University on
Saturday.
