MBC Softball Shut Out this Weekend

STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College softball team lost two doubleheaders over the weekend.

NC Wesleyan College defeated MBC on Friday 10-0 in Game 1 and 7-0 in Game 2.

The Fighting Squirrels held the first game close, trailing just 0-2 when the Battling Bishops added three runs in the top of the 4th inning and five more in the top of the 6th inning to take the 10-0 win in six innings.

Brittni Jones finished with 3 hits, 2 runs, and 3 RBI's for NC Wesleyan while Kendra Hoes added 2 hits, 2 runs, and 3 RBI's.

In the final game against the Battling Bishops, the visitors jumped out early scoring five runs in the first two innings then continued to build their lead. 

Jasmine Edgren led the team with 2 runs, 3 hits, and 2 RBI's.

On Saturday, Christopher Newport University improved their record to 21-10 (13-2 USAS) as they easily defeated Mary Baldwin College 13-0 and 16-0.

In Game 1, the Captains jumped out to a 10-0 start in the first inning and cruised to a 13-0 win.  They were led by Meagan Jones who finished with 2 runs, 3 hits, and 3 RBI's.

The final game of the afternoon was more of the same as the top ranked Captains proved why they are the team to beat scoring 8 runs in the second inning on their way to the 16-0 win.

Mary Baldwin College 2-26 (1-13 USAS) has little time to recover as they play several make-up games next week.  The Fighting Squirrels host Methodist University on Monday, Meredith College on Tuesday, and The University of Maine - Presque Isle on Wednesday before their final weekend of play April 6 and April 7.
