Box Score 2 STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College softball team lost both
games in a double-header today against LaGrange College. The
Fighting Squirrels fell 10-2 in the first game and 12-1 in the
second game in five innings.
In Game 1, the Panthers jumped out to an early lead when Olivia
Wolfe hommered bringing home Christy Flick and Danielle Newbern to
give the visitors and 3-0 lead at the top of the first inning.
LaGranage added another run in the 2nd inning.
Mary Baldwin then got on the board when Jonquil Brown doubled
down the left field line at the bottom of the second inning.
Kristen Anderson followed with a single advancing Brown to
third. Janie Brothers then singled to center field bringing Brown
home and advancing Anderson to third base. After Compton and Graves
failed to get on base, Lindsey Shifflet was walked loading the
bases for Mary Baldwin. Starting pitcher Dani Gravett then
walked Kayla Wheeler scoring Anderson.
With the score 4-2 and bases loaded, the visitors switched
pitchers putting Olivia Wolfe on the mound. Wolfe then struck
out Rebecca Parramore and LaGrange held the 4-2 lead.
The Panthers added six runs while Wolfe held Mary Baldwin
scoreless for the remainder of the game giving LaGrange the
win.
In Game 2, LaGrange again jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the top of
the first inning. This time it was an error that gave
LaGrange 2 runs before Keeley Murray singled to right field
bringing Olivia Wolfe home for the 3-0 lead.
LaGrange doubled their score to 6 in the 3rd inning then doubled
it again to 12 in the 4th inning as they rolled to a 12-1 win in
just 5 innings.
Mary Baldwin's only score came when Lindsey Shifflett singled to
left field bringing home Olivia Compton who had singled up the
middle in the bottom of the 5th inning.
Mary Baldwin College 0-8 (0-8 USAS) plays their third game in
just as many days tomorrow when they host Ferrum College.
