Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, NC - Guilford College jumped out to an early 4-0
lead in the first inning and won the first game of the
double-header against Mary Baldwin College 8-4.
With no outs, Rachel Howard stepped to the plate with the bases
loaded and doubled to right center field earning two RBI's.
The runners advanced an additional base after an error by
right field giving Guilford a quick 3-0 lead. Later, Howard
would score giving her team the 4-0 lead after the first
inning.
Guilford earned 6 hits and 3 additional runs in the second
inning.
Mary Baldwin got on the board in the 3rd inning when Kayla
Wheeler singled to left field bringing home Olivia Compton and
advancing Jaliah Graves to second base. The second run came
after Jonquil Brown singled up the middle advancing the runners.
Kristen Anderson then walked scoring Graves.
Mary Baldwin added a third run in the top of the 4th inning when
Kayla Wheeler hit a sacrific fly to right field.
In the bottom of the inning, an error by Mary Baldwin gave
Guilford their eighth and final run.
After both teams were held scoreless in the 5th and 6th innings,
Mary Baldwin added a final run in the top of the 7th inning.
Janie Brothers started the rally hitting a double to right
center field. Jonquil Brown then followed with a single to second
base. Kristen Anderson singled to left field loading the
bases. Paige Reed singled to left center driving Brothers
across home plate.
Guilford then sent Maggie Shaffer to pitch for Calli Pastor who
ended the Fighting Squirrels hope for a comeback.
The final game proved to be all Guilford as the Quakers took an
8-0 win finishing with 15 hits. Maggie Shaffer remained on the
mound for the second game and held Mary Baldwin to just 2 hits.
Mary Baldwin College (0-16, 0-12 USAS) host Gallaudet at home on
Saturday and William Peace on Sunday.
