Box Score 2 DANVILLE, VA - Mary Baldwin College dropped a pair of softball
games this afternoon to Averett University.
In the first game, the Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the
bottom of the 3rd inning then blew the game open in the 4th scoring
13 runs to take a 16-0 win in five innings.
In Game 2, Averett again jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with
consistent base hits in the bottom of the first inning.
After Averett added another run in the 2nd inning, Mary Baldwin
got on the board in the 3rd inning. Kayla Wheeler started Mary
Baldwin off with a single to right field. A walk by Brothers
advanced Wheeler to 2nd base. Brown was then out when she hit
a pop up to 3rd base.
Kristin Anderson then loaded the bases when she singled through
the left side. Paige Reed earned two RBI's when a single to
right field brought Brothers and Wheeler home.
A fielding error loaded the bases again for the Fighting
Squirrels but the visitors could manage just one more run when
Rebecca Parramore singled to left center field.
Leading just 5-3, Averett answered with 9 runs in the bottom of
the third then added 4 additional runs in the 4th to complete the
sweep 18-3.
Mary Baldwin College 4-22 (1-17 USAS) hosts Greensboro College
Wednesday afternoon. The first game begins at
3:00PM.
