Box Score 2 LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, GA - The Mary Baldwin College softball team
split with Covenant College this afternoon in their final USA South
conference double-header of the year.
Mary Baldwin took the first game 9-8 in extra innings.
Covenant took an early 4-0 lead before Mary Baldwin got on the
board in the top of the 4th inning taking advantage of several
Covenant mistakes. Morgan Tully got her first of four hits as
the Fighting Squirrels score two runs to trail 2-4.
Covenant added a run in the bottom of the 4th inning.
Mary Baldwin answered in the top of the 5th inning scoring two
runs when Jonquil Brown doubled to left center scoring Kayla
Wheeler who had singled earlier. Morgan Tully also singled up
the middle bringing Brown home.
In the next inning, Mary Baldwin rallied behind hits from
Rebecca Parramore, Janie Brothers, Jonquil Brown, Kristen Anderson,
Morgan Tully and Sarah Seekins. The Fighting Squirrels added
4 runs taking an 8-5 lead.
Covenant answered with two runs then tied the game at the bottom
of the 7th inning to force extra innings.
Mary Baldwin placed Jonquil Brown on second base. After
one out, Morgan Tully doubled to right center field bringing Brown
home for what proved to be the winning run.
Then, after Lauren Johns flied out to Wheeler, Olivia Compton
struck out the final two batters to take the 9-8 win in 8
innings.
In the final game, Mary Baldwin jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the
top of the first inning. Covenant quickly answered with 5
runs in the bottom of the first inning and 9 in the bottom of the
second inning to take a commanding 14-2 lead.
Covenant added an additional run in the 4th inning.
Mary Baldwin answered in the top of the 5th inning with a 4 runs
including a home run by Kristen Anderson but it was too little too
late as the Scots took the final game 15-6.
Mary Baldwin College, 5-27 (2-22 USAS) is scheduled to play
Southern Virginia Monday to finish the season.
