Softball Scoreless Against Piedmont

STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College softball team lost to Piedmont College this afternoon in a USA South doubleheader.

The two teams were able to play both games despite threatening weather all afternoon.

In the first game, the visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning and slowly built their lead throughout the remainder of the game.

Piedmont's pitcher, Sarah Walker, held Mary Baldwin scoreless through all five innings giving up just 4 hits.

With a 5-0 lead at the top of the 4th inning, Piedmont's Laura Carter homered tallying 2 RBI's and Whitney Wolfe doubled to centerfield tallying two additional RBI's helping Piedmont to a 10-0 lead after 4 innings.

The Lions added two more runs in the top of the 5th inning to earn a 12-0 win.

In the second game, Piedmont jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning.  The two teams then held one another scoreless until the top of the 5th inning when Piedmont added 3 runs.

At the bottom of the 5th inning, Mary Baldwin loaded the bases.  Piedmont then called a timeout and returned Sarah Walker to the mound.

Mary Baldwin continued to struggle against Walker who picked up the 8-0 save for Piedmont.

Mary Baldwin College, 7-27 (1-19 USAS), host Covenant College Saturday at 1:00 PM.
