Box Score 2 STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College softball team lost two games this afternoon to Covenant College.
In the first game, the Fighting Squirrels jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Montana Welcher hit a single driving home Sarah Seekins to score Mary Baldwin's first run. Pitcher Janie Brothers then stepped to the plate and hit a double to center field to drive Kayla Wheeler home.
Mary Baldwin then held the 2-0 lead until the top of the 4th inning, when Madison Quirk singled up the middle to drive Shannon Schmitt home.
With a 2-1 score, Covenant tied the game in the top of the 6th inning when Madalyn Ames and Joni Johnson scored on a Mary Baldwin error. The visitors scored one more run at the top of the 7th inning to earn the 4-2 win.
In game two, the Scots jumped out to a 1-0 led after the first inning and continued to build their lead throughout the game to take a 14-2 win in six innings.
Mary Baldwin College 2-8 (0-6 USAS) continue play on Saturday against Wilson College in a non-conference matchup.
