Box Score 2 STAUNTON, VA - Top ranked Piedmont College defeated Mary Baldwin College in both ends of a double header this afternoon in a USA South Conference matchup.
In the first game, Piedmont scored one run in each of the first three innings. Mary Baldwin answered in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Sarah Seekins homered to left field to trail 1-3.
The Lions then broke the game open in the top of the 4th inning. After loading the bases, a walk gave Piedmont a 4-1 lead. Hannah Hoban then stepped to the plate and homered to left field driving in four runs. With a 8-1 lead, a walk scored one more run for the visitors. Audrey Esakoff then singled to centerfield driving two more runs home. Piedmont drove one final run home in the 5th inning to earn the 12-1 win.
Sarah Seekins led Mary Baldwin going 2 for 2 tallying one double, one home run, and one RBI.
In the final game, both teams were held scoreless for the first three innings. Piedmont then scored five runs in the top of the 4th inning. Audrey Esakoff homered to left field giving Piedmont a 2-0 lead. Two singles by Hannah Hogan and Jessica Bagwell gave Piedmont the 5-0 advantage. The Lions added four runs in the 5th while holding Mary Baldwin scoreless to post the 9-0 win.
Mary Baldwin College 8-18 (0-10) will take a break for the Easter weekend then continue play on Tuesday at Ferrum College.
