Box Score 2 STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin College softball team hosted William Peace University this afternoon in a USA South double header.
In the first game, Mary Baldwin lost 0-14 in five innings.
William Peace started the day off with two home runs in the first inning taking a 4-0 lead. The two teams were held scoreless for the next two innings. In the top of the fourth inning with two outs, the Pacers scored 10 runs to earn the win.
William Peace finished wtih 17 hits in 33 at bats. Morgan Farmer held the mound for four innings for William Peace and finished with 7 strike outs.
Janie Brothers started for Mary Baldwin College. Brothers finsihed with one strikeout and gave up 9 hits and 4 runs.
In the second game, Peace took an early 2-0 lead then added 6 runs in the 4th inning to earn their second USA South win of the day with a final score of 8-2.
Morgan Tully led Mary Baldwin with 3 hits and 2 runs including a home run over the fence in right center field in the bottom of the 4th inning. Kayla Wheeler added a second run for Mary Baldwin when she doubled to left field driving Tully home in the bottom of the sixth inning.
After the contests, head coach Christy Shelton said, "In the first game, William Peace hit the ball extremely well against us and we had a hard time adjusting to their pitcher. In the second game, we came out and had some really good hits but couldn't put them together to generate many runs. We will learn from these games and keep getting better each time on the field."
Mary Baldwin College, 2-4 (0-4 USAS) will host Covenant College Friday afternoon.
