Box Score 2 FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Mary Baldwin College softball team completed their season this afternoon at Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC. The Monarchs defeated the Fighting Squirrels 10-2 in the first game and 3-1 in the final game.
In the first game, Methodist jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning then added 2 runs in the second to take an early commanding lead.
Mary Baldwin answered with 2 runs in the top of the 4th inning. Methodist added 4 more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to end the game and take the 10-2 win.
Five different Fighting Squirrels tallied one hit each while Janie Brothers and Olivia Compton finished with one RBI each.
In the second game, Methodist built a 2-0 lead after the first two innings. Both teams were held scoreless in the 3rd and 4th innings.
Methodist added a run in the bottom of the 5th inning.
Mary Baldwin got on the board in the top of the 7th inning when Chrissy Cromer doubled to right center field driving home Pattie Pleasants. The rally fell short and Methodist took the win 3-1.
After the double header, Head Coach Christy Shelton said, "Both games our defense was solid. We hit the ball but right at someone and in the second game we had our chances but couldn't put the hits together. We left too many on base. I can't say enough about what our seniors have done for our program. They gave us everything they had."
Mary Baldwin College finishes the season 10-30 (0-20 USA South).
