STAUNTON, VA - Guilford College improved their record to 12-2 this afternoon when they defeated Mary Baldwin in both ends of a double-header this afternoon.

After losing the first game 0-24, Mary Baldwin came roaring back in the second game leading Guilford 3-2 after the first inning.

Guilford led the second game with two home runs to take a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the inning, Mary Baldwin answered when Morgan Tully doubled to centerfield driving Chrissy Cromer home and Montana Welcher to third.  Alli Bascunan then singled to centerfield driving home both Welcher and Tully.

The visitors added two runs at the top of the second inning to lead by one run.

Mary Baldwin again answered with one run to tie the game when Pattie Pleasants crossed the plate in the bottom of the inning.

Guilford added one run in the top of the third when Sarah Adams homered to center field.

Both teams were held scoreless for the next three innings.  In the top of the seventh inning, Guilford scored seven runs to seal the win 12-4.

After the game, Head Coach Christy Shelton said, "I thought there were some postitives and negatives from both games.  I think we had some first game jitters and we settled down in the second game.  Guilford hit the ball well today in both games.  I thought our pitchers did a nice job today keeping their composure.  We need to hit our spots better.  Hitting came around some and that will improve as we keep playing.  We made some good defensive plays.  We will go to work tomorrow to get better."

Mary Baldwin University, 0-2, continues play Wednesday at Bridgewater College.
