Softball Falls to Meredith in Extra Innings

RALEIGH, NC - The Mary Baldwin University softball team completed their USA South Conference play this afternoon at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. 

The first game proved to be a defensive battle as both teams were held scoreless through 4 innings. 

Dana Cromer hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the 5th inning to drive Morgan Tully home and give the Fighting Squirrels the lead.

Meredith tied the game at the bottom of the 6th inning.  Both teams were held scoreless in the 7th inning to put the game into extra innings. 

After holding Mary Baldwin in the top of the 8th inning, Julia Allsbrook singled to left field to drive home Erin Artigues to give Meredith the win 2-1.

Heather Mayes pitched 7 innings while Courtney Gordon stepped in to finish in the 8th inning.

Meredith College took the second game 5-0 to finish in the top spot in the East Division going into the tournament next weekend. 

Mary Baldwin, 7-23 (5-17 USAS), finish conference play with their best conference record since joining the USA South.  The Fighting Squirrels make up two non-conference games next week to finish the season.
