Box Score 2 RALEIGH, NC – The Mary Baldwin softball team dropped both games in a conference doubleheader against Meredith College, losing the first game 9-2 and the second game 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Squirrels move to 4-18 overall, while the Avenging Angels improve to 5-17 on the season.
In Game 1, in the top of the first inning Mary Baldwin came out swinging with singles by Madison Cash and Jordan Miller. Courteney Back's two-run double scored the only two runs of the game for the Fighting Squirrels. Cash ended the game going 2 for 3 with one run scored, while Back went 1 for 2 with two RBI.
The Avenging Angels tallied 17 hits in the game with 13 of them coming from the top five hitters in the lineup. Kelsey Mabe, Bryce Smith, and Susanne Taylor each tallied three hits in the game while Charlie Cox led the team in RBI with three and Smith added a pair of RBI.
In Game 2, Mary Baldwin pitcher Madison Cash and Meredith pitcher Payton Aldridge shut down the offense for both teams. Cash pitched 7.0 innings only allowing four hits and one walk. Aldridge pitched 7.0 innings only allowing four hits with one walk.
In the top of the eighth inning Lindsay Simmons singled to score Kendall Field scoring the first run of the game, 1-0. Meredith answered in the bottom of the eighth with Smith reaching first on an error allowing Mabe and Anna Goldman to score to walk off the game, 2-1.
Mary Baldwin returns to action tomorrow, March 31, when it travels to William Peace for a conference doubleheader slated to begin at 12 pm.
