Box Score 2 CHAMBERSBURG, PA- The Mary Baldwin Softball team split in a doubleheader against Wilson, losing the first game 13-1 (5 Inn.) and winning the second game 10-1 (5 Inn.) on Wednesday afternoon.
The Fighting Squirrels move to 5-21 overall, while the Phoenix improve to 8-4-2 on the season.
In Game 2, Mary Baldwin erupted for six runs in the top of the first inning. Lindsay Simmons led off the game with a single, Madison Cash added another single to score Simmons. With the bases loaded, Lacey Pugh singled for a RBI, 2-0. Kelsey Hines walked to make the game 3-0. Kendall Field hit a three RBI double to left field to clear the bases, 6-0. In the second inning Pugh hit a two RBI single to score Sam Breeden and Cash. In the fourth inning, Alexis Clark blasted a two-run homer to put Mary Baldwin up 10-1.
Mary Baldwin was led by Cash who went 2-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Pugh added two hits, three RBI and one run scored, Field also tallied three RBI while Clark hit the only home run of the day. Morgan Hughes got the win in the circle for the Fighting Squirrels pitching a complete game (5 Inn.) only allowing five hits and one run.
Wilson scored their single run in the bottom of the first inning when Jennifer Cail singled to score Shockey.
In Game 1, Mary Baldwin was led by Breeden and Clark who each tallied one hit for the Fighting Squirrels.
Wilson tallied 16 hits in the game, with Jenna Carty going 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Alison Shockey, Cail and Gabriella Newman each tallied two hits and six RBI from the trio.
Mary Baldwin will return to action on Saturday, April 6, for senior day when it plays Salem College at home for a conference doubleheader set to begin at 1 pm.
