Box Score 2 The Mary Baldwin softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader against Mary Washington on Thursday.
Before the game, the Fighting Squirrels honored their three seniors, Sam Breeden, Lindsay Simmons, and Kayley Turner.
After Mary Washington (10-16) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, a ground ball by Breeden scored Marybeth Strickler to make it 2-1.
A three-run seventh inning then helped the Eagles take a 5-1 lead.
In the bottom half of the seventh, Maisie Spivey reached on error that scored Turner.
Breeden then hit a two-RBI single to make 5-4, although, MBU's rally would fall short.
In game two, Mary Baldwin took a 1-0 lead in the second after Olivia Gagne tripled and then made it all the way home off an error on the throw in.
In the third, a sacrifice fly by Lacey Pugh scored Spivey to double the lead.
The game remained 2-0 until the sixth when Mary Washington put up three runs, followed by another four in the seventh for a 7-2 win.
The Fighting Squirrels end the 2021 season with a 5-17 record, including a 1-7 mark in the USA South.
