Box Score 2 CHAMBERSBURG, PA. — The Mary Baldwin softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Wilson College on Tuesday.
In the first inning of game one, Sam Breeden hit a single to left to score Marybeth Strickler as MBU (5-15, 1-7 USA South) took a 1-0 lead.
The Phoenix took over from there as they put up three runs in the second, five in the third, and two in the fourth for a 10-1 win.
In the first inning of game two, Wilson's second baseman Naomi Butterfield bobbled a grounder hit by Breeden that allowed Strickler to score from second.
The Phoenix then tied it up in the bottom half of first.
In the third, Alexis Clark reached on a fielder's choice that scored Lindsay Simmons from third and gave the Fighting Squirrels a 2-1 lead.
Mary Baldwin tacked on an insurance run in sixth as Breeden singled to left and scored Olivia Gagne.
Strickler had an impressive performance on the mound for MBU, giving up just two hits and one earned run while striking out a career-high 14 batters.
The Fighting Squirrels will play a doubleheader at Averett on Saturday, starting at 1:00 p.m.
