Box Score 2 STAUNTON, Va. - Mary Baldwin softball hosted Methodist Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader in which the Squirrels split, winning the first game 4-0 and losing the second 6-3.
The Squirrels jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over Methodist in the opener with an Olivia Gange getting a double before the Squirrels went on a two-out rally. Hadley May walked and Allison Crum and Paige Fix followed with run-scoring singkes.
Emily McCreery was in the curcle for the Squirrels and kept the lead for the Squirrels untl her teammates added ar run in the fourth. Leanna Rankin singled and stole second before mocing to third on a Gagne groundout. Rankin scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0. The Squirrels added another run in the sixth when Gange's single and a stolen base were followed by Haley Roberts and Hadley May walks to load the bases. Crum's RBI single made the score 4-0.
McCreery pitched a complete game and only allowed only one hit and one walk while striking out eight.
In the second game of the day, the Squirrels opened it like the first game with two runs in the first inning off with a Rankin walk and an Elily Hall single getting things started. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before a single by May and a Methodist error put the Squirrels ahead 2-0.
However, the Monarchs fought back with two of their own in the second to tie the game and then added runs in the fourth and fifth to lead 4-2.
The Squirrels answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a May sac fly to pull MBU within a run, 4-3.
MBU is back in action Tuesday (March. 28) when the team travels to play Greensboro for a conference doubleheader.
