Box Score Pitcher
Emily McCreery was strong in the circle, and catcher
Hadley May controlled the game behind the plate and in the batter's box, as the Mary Baldwin Softball Team defeated Sweet Briar in a non-conference contest Wednesday, 7-0. The scheduled second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to the dangerous, windy conditions.
McCreery went the distance, scattering four hits in seven innings, to post the shutout and improve to 2-2 for the season. Appropriately, the game ended when May picked off a baserunner on first base for the third out of the last inning.
At the plate, May had a bases-loaded walk in the first inning, and RBI single in the second inning and a pair of two-run homers into the strong wind to put the game away. May finished with three hits and a walk in four plate appearances, two runs and six RBI. Outfielder
Allison Crum was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI to support the offense.
Mary Baldwin's upcoming schedule changed due to the pending rain that's supposed to impact the North Carolina and Virginia area this weekend. The Fighting Squirrels twinbill at Methodist has been moved to Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m.
