Box Score 2 Mary Baldwin needed a pair of last-inning victories, the second in 10 innings, to secure a pair of non-conference victories Monday to finish the team's Spring Break trip with a 6-2 overall record.
MBU started the day with an 11-8 victory over Lancaster Bible, scoring the final three runs in the top of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by
Allison Crum and a two-run hit by
Cassidy Newcomb. Four Fighting Squirrels had multiple hits in the game, led by Newcomb with two singles and a double and four RBI. Crum, who knocked in two runs and scored one, along with
Molly Thompson and Jenna Dimicelli also had two hits for the winners.
In the second game, MBU broke loose for a 7-0 lead, but Cedar Crest rallied to force extra innings. Each team scored once in the eighth inning before MBU outscored the Falcons 3-1 in the 10th inning.
Hadley May's two-run single in the top of the 10th broke the tie, and Thompson added another run-scoring hit to help MBU secure an 11-9 win.
Trinity Thomas, who scored two runs in the first game of the day, contributed four of MBU's 22 hits against Cedar Crest and added two more runs scored. Crum (three runs scored), May (four RBI), Thompson and
Emily Hall all had three base hits for the winners.
The Fighting Squirrels return to regular-season action in Staunton Friday when the Wilson College Phoenix visit for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
